Editor’s note: Pending an FDA decision, 23andMe no longer offers new customers access to health reports referred to in this post. Customers who purchased prior to November 22, 2013 will still be able to see their health reports, but those who purchased after that time will not. Those customers will have access to ancestry information as well as access to their uninterpreted raw data.
Testing with 23andMe can tell you hundreds of things about your health, and like a lot of our customers, Kevin, one of the actors who appeared in our recent TV campaign, sees power in that.
Knowing allows you to try and “change what you can, and manage what you can’t,” he said.
In an interview after the shoot, Kevin talked about how his results informed him about his own risks — in his case he learned he was a carrier for sickle cell.
But he also puts access to that information into context. The mapping of the human genome was one of the greatest scientific accomplishments ever, he said. Getting access to your genetic information puts some of the power of that science into your own hands.
Check out what he said in his behind the scenes video.
