An Ode To Mom Genes

Mom, I’m not the best poet and I know you know it, but here’s my rhyme, I’ll try not to blow it.

I am grateful for the traits you gave me — my eyes, curly hair, and even crying easily.

I appreciate all the many little things — a preference to listen, but not the allergy to azithromycin.

You always have been so conscientious, a paragon of caring and unpretentiousness.

Then there’s your uncanny ability, to match a musical pitch with such agility.

Maybe I should have kept this simple, and only thanked you for my dimple.

But all this is to say, I love you and wish you a Happy Mother’s Day.
